Being located at the border of the 2 states of Tamil Nadu and Kerala, Coimbatore provides easy access to a range of Leisure/vacation spots.

Ooty (Ootacamund)
Ooty, the "Queen of hill stations" is just a 3-hour drive from the city of Coimbatore. It is also called Blue Mountains, on account of the blue mist that envelops the range. Once the darling of the Englishmen, Maharajas and upper class, it is a popular vacation spot in the region. The unique climate of Ooty has been hailed as one of the best in the world by Englishmen. . Cascading waterfalls among lush green forests, slopes of tea estates, placid lakes and the aroma of the swaying eucalyptus trees would enchant any tourist to ecstacy. Cottage type bungalow, houses of red tiles, flowers and fruits are the main attractions of the city.
How to get there :
Ooty is well connected to its neighbouring states (Karnataka & Kerala). There are about 8 Express Buses to Bangalore (Journey 8½ hours), 6 Express Buses to Mysore (Journey 5 hrs). Coimbatore and Mettupalayam have buses at a frequency of about one bus every half an hour.
By rail: Take a train from Chennai to Mettupalayam and from there take the mountain train to Ooty.
By air: The nearest airport is at Coimbatore (95Kms) which is connected to Bangalore, Madras, Cochin and Trivandrum by Indian Airlines.
Mudumalai
Mudumlai meaning "ancient hill", is one of the better known wildlife santuaries in the country. Although located in Tamilnadu, it is situated at a point where the state boundary meets Kerala and Karnatka States. Together with Bandipur Tiger Reserve and Nagarhole National Park on the Karnataka side and Wynaad National Park in Kerala and adjoining forest reserves it is one of the largest protected forest tracts in the country.
Kodaikanal
Located 120 kms away from Madurai, Kodaikanal is a beautiful hill station and is at an altitude of 2133m on the southern tip of the upper Palani hills in the Western ghats. Kodaikanal has a bracing climate where temperature do not vary much from summer to winter.
Fruits like plums and plantains grow abundantly on the wooded slopes apart from a wide variety of flowers, among which is the famous Kurinji flower which blooms once in twelve years. Kodaicanal is a healthy hill city. Spices grow in plenty along with a variety of fruits.
How to get there:
Kodaikkanal is well connected by road and there are frequent buses from Chennai, Madurai, Palani, Coimbatore, Dindugal and Tiruchi. The nearest railway station is Kodaikkanal Road on the Chennai-Madurai broad guage line. The nearest airport is Madurai.
Munnar
The nature-lover's dream. Snuggling in the green and serene Kannan Devan Hills, lies the quite and restful resort of Munnar, at an altitude of 1524 m and 136 km off Cochin.
Panoramic views of low-flying clouds and mist filled valleys make it a pretty little heaven with a cool bracing climate. It was opened up out of virgin forests a century ago by pioneering planters.
Nearest City: 133 kms from Cochin.
Getting there: Buses are available from Cochin run by private bus operators. Munnar is accessible from Kodaikanal(110km)and Thekkady(98km)
